Who we are

The Trade Reform Division is focused on growing Australian Agriculture by reforming the export functions and pursuing a deregulation agenda. We aim to partner with our internal and external stakeholders to build a vision and strategy to boost the future of agricultural trade. We are working in partnership with the Digital Trade Initiatives Division to deliver export reforms under the $328 million Busting Congestion for Agricultural Exporters Package designed to slash unnecessary red-tape, streamline regulation and embrace innovation.

The Lawful Decision Making Team is responsible for delivering several control assurance reviews across the export legislation commodities. Working with several internal stakeholders, the team will review relevant instructional materials, training systems, and processes to confirm legislation changes have been implemented and are operating compliantly.


The Job

The position will involve:

  • establishing and managing a post-commencement project (Export Legislation)
  • coordinating with divisions and business areas to support project planning and reporting
  • management of project milestones and schedules
  • management of project risk and issues registers
  • assist in the updating of various project documents
  • actively promoting and supporting the implementation of the control framework and guidelines
  • proactively encouraging business areas to align their risk management approach with the department’s enterprise risk management system
  • facilitating and participating in risk management committees and various forums to build relationships
  • preparing papers for various boards and committees
  • providing support and assistance to the Director and other team members
  • contributing to strategic priorities for the team to achieve departmental outcomes.


Work location

Please note that this position can be performed from our Canberra office (Marcus Clarke St)


What we are looking for

Knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated strong leadership in stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience leading, managing, and supporting staff to work collaboratively in a challenging, complex, and fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience in project management, risk management, and/or auditing would be an advantage.


Skills and capabilities

The role will require the following skills and capabilities:

  • The ability to think strategically, synthesise complex information and identify effective solutions.
  • The ability to effectively prioritise and manage several competing tasks with competing deadlines.
  • A demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive working relationship with colleagues.
  • High level written and oral communication skills including the ability to present information to a variety of audiences.
  • A demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a high-performing team.


Desirable qualifications

Qualifications in project management, auditing, or risk management are desirable.


The contract term will be 12 months with a starting date Mid May 2021.
