Policy and Legislation Development APS 5/6 EL1

The duties of the role (depending on the level of engagement) include but are not limited to:

  • supporting the development of policy and legislation, particularly related to the imposition of levies and the collection and disbursement of levy funds.
  • supporting the preparation of drafting instructions to prepare the new legislative framework
  • reviewing existing legislation and historical levies policies to shape the new legislative framework
  • supporting the legislation exposure and introduction processes
  • supporting the preparation of reports and policy discussion papers for review
  • liaising with other policy, regulatory and operational areas in the department and across government.

The duties of the role at the EL1 level include but are not limited to:

  • leading the development of policy and legislation, particularly related to the current levy recipient body legislation
  • reviewing existing legislation and historical levies policies to shape the new legislative framework
  • leading research and analysis to inform policy papers and consultation material
  • assessing industry feedback for consideration in the legislative drafting process
  • managing industry consultation processes
  • managing the legislation exposure and introduction processes
  • managing the preparation of internal and ministerial briefings, reports and policy discussion papers
  • liaising with other policy, regulatory and operational areas in the department and across government.

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience or exposure to legislative reform processes and legislation development is highly desirable.
  • Experience or exposure to large government reforms or policy development.

  • experience working in a policy/legislative reform role including research, preparing drafting instructions, policy papers, briefing material and analytical reporting

Essential Criteria:

  • APS5 and APS6 equivalent levels,

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience or exposure to legislative reform and legislation development,
  • Experience or exposure to large government reforms or policy development.
