About the Role 

The Project Manager is responsible for leading project teams in delivering solutions according to project charter or client project contracts for Data initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • The Project Manager – Delivery Manager / Service Owner role within Westpac’s Technology Transformation (UNITE Program) is responsible for leading the day-to-day delivery and execution of technology transformation initiatives across multiple projects. The role is critical to supporting a large-scale transformation focused on simplifying systems, enhancing customer and employee experiences, and reducing operational risk.
  • Managing AI Initiatives: As a Delivery Manager, the candidate is expected to lead and drive AI-enabled initiatives by leveraging Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools to improve delivery outcomes. The role involves identifying opportunities to automate processes, embedding AI-driven efficiencies across project delivery, and promoting the adoption of intelligent automation wherever feasible to enhance productivity, quality, and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage projects using Agile methodologies, with experience in SAFe Agile preferred. Ensure effective sprint planning and execution by maintaining accurate and up-to-date Jira boards, with all user stories and tasks appropriately planned and tracked across sprints. Maintain Jira hygiene in accordance with Westpac standards, ensuring data quality, traceability, and timely updates to support transparent project governance and reporting.
  • The Project Manager is responsible for managing end‑to‑end delivery, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution while ensuring alignment with program objectives. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders such as program managers, architects, infrastructure leads, QA teams, and vendors to coordinate environment setup, application integration, and testing readiness.
  • Lead the day-to-day management of technical project streams within a complex program, with a focus on test environment uplift
  • Own and drive project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution in coordination with key stakeholders
  • Manage cross-functional teams, including internal SMEs, external vendors, business analysts and solution engineers
  • Ensure scope, timelines, and delivery risks are proactively identified, communicated, and mitigated
  • Work collaboratively with program managers, project managers, solution architects, infrastructure leads, QA/test teams, and vendors to identify requirements, assess impacts and align delivery objectives
  • Provide structured high-quality reporting to Program Managers on project health, risks, and outcomes

Skills/Experience 

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering complex technical projects within large enterprise transformation programs, preferably in banking or financial services
  • Knowledge of project governance, delivery lifecycles, stakeholder engagement, and vendor management
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as architecture diagrams and system flows
  • Solid experience managing end-to-end project delivery uplifting and deploying new Infrastructure, onboarding applications, and integrating with existing services
  • Experience working with internal teams and third-party vendors to facilitate and manage delivery
  • Excellent proactiveness, stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to gather requirements, facilitate workshops and drive outcomes
  • Confident working with technical stakeholders and translating between business and IT domains
  • Provide structured and concise reporting to Program Managers and key stakeholders on RAG status, milestones, risks, issues and finances
  • High attention to detail and organisational skills, comfortable managing multiple concurrent streams
  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication, interpersonal skills and strong resilience

  • Experience working in complex environments with a large number of applications requiring integration into existing systems (E.g. Data Platforms, APIs, upstream & downstream systems)
  • Solid understanding of test environments management
  • Exposure to Traditional, Agile and hybrid delivery methodologies
  • Familiar with a variety of project delivery and collaboration tools (e.g. MS Project, Jira, Confluence)
  • Comfortable stepping into ambiguity
  • A Team player, highly accountable, proactive, and flexible, with a willingness to go above and beyond
